~ Ota Bloodname History ~
-Introduction-
The Ota (Ōta) legacy has a long and illustrious history. They rose to prominence during the Sengoku period in Japan on ancient Earth and played a significant role ending centuries of conflict and uniting the country under the Tokugawa Shogunate. As Samurai warriors, they distinguished themselves on the battlefield and as administrative vassals to the Shoguns, eventually rising to the rank of Daimyo or Feudal Lords. They were fierce and honorable warriors on the battlefield, wise and just lords over those they ruled, and considered some of the most faithful and trusted servants of their Shogun lords.
Daniel Ota was commander of General Aleksandr Kerensky’s personal honor guard and, as such, left with Kerensky when he called for the SLDF Exodus. He was one of Kerensky’s most steadfast and loyal warrior’s, remaining undaunted in his loyalty even during the Exodus Civil War. After the death of the General’s wife, Katyusha Kerensky, Aleksandr was in mourning and unable to effectively lead. Daniel did his best to hold the Pentagon worlds together and maintain the peace. But the forces of social and cultural unrest proved to be unstoppable. When rebel forces started to arise on the pentagon worlds and brutally attack without regard or concern for any but their own, and after thwarting many attempts on the General’s life, Daniel was assigned to protect Nicholas Kerensky by his father Aleksandr. He trusted no one to do the job better.
Nicholas protested at first, but Daniel’s quiet, unassuming demeanor and ability to remain “ever-present” and “hardly seen” eventually won him over. By offering words of quiet wisdom in moments they were needed most, Daniel eventually became one of Nicholas’ most important advisors and a trusted friend. When Nicholas left on the Second Exodus, following the death of his father, Daniel was with him. It was well known that Daniel’s love of and fascination for the Mongolian empire made a significant impact on Nicholas, especially as he came up with the formulation of the Clans.
During the time of testing to see which warriors would qualify for the honor of becoming the first Clan warriors, Daniel’s scores were among the highest possible. He was offered the privilege of establishing one of the Clans by Nicholas but decided he would best serve in a capacity other than leadership. Daniel was given his choice of which of the clans to join; something offered to only a few. As he was deliberating, Jason Karrige, who would become the first Khan of Clan Widowmaker, and had the utmost respect for Daniel, knowing his skills and temperament, specifically requested that he become a member of his clan. Daniel accepted.
During his time as a member of General Aleksandr Kerensky’s Honor Guard and as a leader Nicholas’s Personal bodyguard, it should be noted that all attempts on either man were thwarted. He served and fought with great honor and distinction. He was the first to offer Hegira on the field of battle and it was because of his wisdom and the great respect he commanded from all warriors regardless of their Clan that it was adopted as part of clan culture.
He served faithfully and honorably to the very end, that being the day Clan Widowmaker was absorbed into Clan Wolf. He looked on in horror as his former charge and friend, Nicholas Kerensky, was killed on the field of battle. Even though his heart was for his friend Nicholas, he fought valiantly as a warrior of Clan Widowmaker. Daniel was one of the few Widowmakers to survive the events of that tragic day.
His legacy as a warrior is wide and varied. On one hand he represents a warrior who is fierce and deadly in battle, honoring his legacy as a samurai. And on the other hand, he represents the epitome of loyalty, faithfulness, honor, duty, and friendship, even in the face of adversity.
